Schubert's Erlkönig is one of his best known and most dramatic lieder. Based on a poem by J.W. von Goethe, it depicts the tale of a father and son being chased by a supernatural being, the Erlkönig (which represents death). Your ensemble will certainly be challenged by the persistence of the repeated triplet (horse galloping) figure and endurance required for this piece.
